Music, artist interviews, and upcoming performances around western Montana.

Shawn Brackbill

Ambient music is a broad and often misleading category of music, but throughout all ambient music there is a sense of spacious and expansive musical landscapes.   Julianna Barwick’s music is soaring, captivating and sparse, evocative of snowy, windblown places.

If the piano compositions of Abdullah Ibrahim or Eric Satie perk up your ears, you'll be intrigued by the piano work of Emahoy Tsegué-Mariam Guebrù, an Ethiopian nun, pianist and composer who for nearly thirty years has lived cloistered in an Ethiopian Orthodox convent in Jerusalem. A series of concerts this week in Jerusalem highlight Guebrù's music, premiering pieces the 90-year-old composer first recorded on l.p. fifty years ago, in Ethiopia.

Iceland Rocks

Aug 11, 2013

When Two Jazz Greats Collide.

Jul 22, 2013

Pat Metheny plays John Zorn.     And why not?     While Zorn is best known for his sometimes difficult, avant-garde jazz, Metheny is no stranger to blistering experimentation.   On Tap: The Book of Angels, Vol. 20, Metheny returns to a style he worked in 1994 with Ornette Coleman (‘Song X’), solo in 1994 ('Zero Tolerance for Silence') and then with Derek Bailey in 1996 ('Sign of 4').

It’s been nine years since the last release from The Pixies, and twenty six years since their first release, Come On Pilgrim.  Now in the same time they announce the departure of bassist Kim Deal, arrives a kicking new song, Bagboy.   It’s the same bratty, scratchy and rocking sound as ever:
