Ivan and Alyosha

Oct 18, 2013

July 23rd and October 22nd, 2013:  Seattle based folk-pop, indie-rock band Ivan and Alyosha derive their band name from Dostoyevsky, but their music is accessible as American pie. Their adventurous playing and writing aims for the highest common denominator. http://www.musiciansspotlight.org

Part two of a tribute to the late Mulgrew Miller continues as we move into the the present and feature his work over the last 15 years with the likes of Vincent Herring, Jim Rotondi, Lou Soloff, Jeremy Pelt and Ron Carter. We'll also hear music from his own albums, primarily leading a trio. The accomplished pianist, who had successful runs with both Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the 1980's and and the Tony Williams quintet from 1984 until Williams own death in 1997, also inspired modern players like Geoffrey Keezer and Robert Glasper.  We lost Miller last May at 57.

The identical twins honed their craft in Sandpoint, ID and have become favorites at festivals, clubs and concert halls since they relocated to Portland, OR, where their "quirkiness" has been welcomed with open arms. http://www.musiciansspotlight.org
