Voter registration is at an all time high in Montana, the latest tally from the Montana Secretary of State’s office shows nearly 709,000 Montanans are signed up to vote.

When polls opened at 7 a.m., nearly half of those voters had already cast their absentee ballots, putting state voter turnout on a path to surpass that of the last midterm election. In a surge yesterday, more than 20,000 people turned in their absentee ballots.

We've had reporters talking to voters across much of Western Montana today including these who Nora Saks spoke to in Butte this morning.

Nora Saks: Heading towards the civic center in Butte, it's snowy, there are so many people here. The roads are really greasy but there's lots of people just flowing in. One of the major voting locations in Butte. I'm going to try to catch up with some people.

Vice President Mike Pence was in Kalispell Monday morning campaigning for Republican Senate hopeful Matt Rosendale and Congressman Greg Gianforte.

About 550 people attended Pence’s third visit to Montana, held in a hangar at Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell.

A Montana Assistant U.S. Attorney will serve as the state’s Election Officer for the November 6 general election.

That means Brendan McCarthy will oversee the District of Montana’s handling of allegations of election fraud and voting rights abuse.

Montana voters who have not yet mailed in their absentee ballot are out of time to do so and county election officials now suggest hand delivering ballots to make sure they are counted.

Helena voter Kathryn QannaYahu got concerned this week when she checked in on how long it took for local election officials to get her ballot after she’d dropped it in the mail.

Political mailers have been causing confusion or spreading incorrect information about voting in Montana this election cycle. Here's some info from the Montana Secretary of State's office about how, when and where you can vote.

A Republican National Committee official says a recent mailer unintentionally included an error about Montana's absentee ballot deadline.

State Political Practices Commissioner Jeff Mangan received complaints about the mailer and has been in touch with the RNC.

By the numbers alone, absentee ballots are a big hit with Montana voters – and getting bigger.

As of Oct. 22, with two weeks of campaigning still to go, officials reported sending out more than 406,000 absentee ballots. That’s almost 50,000 more than were sent to voters in Montana’s 2016 presidential election.

“The Dude” is stumping for Democrat Jon Tester. Actor Jeff Bridges spoke to the College Democrats of Montana in Bozeman Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the latest celebrity appearance of the state’s increasingly high-profile U.S. Senate race.

The actor famous for his chill, bathrobe-wearing character "The Dude" in the film "The Big Lebowski," drew a young crowd of nearly 400 people that local Democrats tried to turn into immediate voters.

An event to counter President Donald Trump’s planned rally at Missoula’s airport Thursday, Oct. 18 focuses on getting out the vote.

Missoula Rises is organizing the “Love Trumps Hate” rally which runs from 2:30 to 6 p.m. that same day at Playfair Park, about seven miles from the airport.
