Glacier National Park plow crews are dealing with massive amounts of snow and it’s still falling. Plow crews working in Two Medicine on Glacier’s east side are clearing some snow drifts that are 15 to 20 feet deep.
Park officials say plows, on average, are encountering snow depths of 7 to 10 feet. This winter brought record, or near record, snowfall to parts of northwest Montana.
Snow removal crews worked on Many Glacier Road on the park’s east side and will push into Camas Road on Glacier’s west side as conditions allow.
Spring snow fell last weekend and more is forecast this weekend. Weather permitting, crews next week will start to tackle the popular Going-to-the-Sun Road between Lake McDonald and Avalanche.
It’s almost certain to be slow going due to this year’s significant avalanche danger. Going-to-the-Sun Road opened June 28 last year.
Glacier officials caution that if these wintery conditions persist, campgrounds, trails and roads could open later than normal this year.
