Wildfire conditions can change in an instant. The Observation Fire burning about 10 miles southwest of Hamilton in the Bitterroot National Forest is a perfect example.

A new road/area closure order was expanded Monday evening to include Lost Creek Horse Road from the junction with Lick Creek Road west to Twin Lakes, Schumaker Campground and Bear Creek Pass trailhead. The closures are for firefighter and public safety.

A wildfire burning in Bitterroot National Forest has grown to over 300 acres. Most of the activity on the 322 acre Observation Point Fire is reported on its northwest flank. It’s burning in extremely steep and rugged terrain.

Stage 2 fire restrictions went into effect in the Missoula area today. The restrictions apply to public and private lands in Missoula, Mineral, Sanders, Granite and Ravalli counties, including the Lolo and Bitterroot National Forests, BLM and state lands.

A Type-II incident management team has taken over command on the Thompson Fire burning in Glacier National Park about 15 miles east of the the West Glacier entrance. The fire started August 9, and has already burned an estimated 14,900 acres as of Thursday morning. The Thompson fire is 0 percent contained at this time.
