Recounts Sought In Montana House District Races

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Recounts have been requested in two Montana legislative races from the Nov. 6 election.

The Great Falls Tribune reports recount petitions were filed Wednesday with the secretary of state's office by two Democratic candidates challenging results in the House District 22 race in Great Falls and House District 51 race in Billings.

Today we’re taking a look at housing prices in Montana. In our last story, we reported on how tariffs on Canadian and Chinese building supplies are driving up prices for new homes in Montana.

But there appears to be some downward pressure on prices for existing homes.

“Well, so things are starting to change,” says Brint Wahlberg, of the Missoula Organization of Realtors.

Wahlberg says the local median sales price is still holding strong at close to $290,000.

Native Americans in the Billings-area now can use a clinic tailored to their needs. The Billings Urban Indian Health and Wellness Clinic fills the void after the abrubt closure of a clinic 18 months ago by the Indian Health Board of Billings.

Montana Cities Bid For USDA Office Relocation

Missoula Economic Partnership is among three Montana organizations that have expressed interest in housing the relocated facilities for two United States Department of Agriculture research centers.

President Donald Trump signed a bill sponsored by Senator Jon Tester Monday that will give additional resources to treat veterans in the criminal justice system across the country.

Tester served as chief co-sponsor of the “Veterans Treatment Court Improvement Act,” which passed the Senate unanimously in February of this year.

Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Matt Rosendale sent a fundraising email Thursday saying that his Billings office was vandalized earlier this week when Vice President Mike Pence was in the city campaigning for him. Billings police say the case has run cold with no evidence of motive or a suspect.

Vice President Mike Pence was the latest to rail against Montana’s Democratic U.S. Senator Jon Tester who faces re-election in November.

Over the past 4 ½ weeks President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and now Pence have traveled to Montana to campaign on behalf of Republican challenger Matt Rosendale.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The head of the state health department says child protection workers in Billings are facing "crisis level caseloads" leading the Division of Child and Family Services to decide to close its Livingston office and move that office's caseworker jobs to Billings.

Authorities Identify Billings Man Shot By Police Officer

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man killed by a Montana police officer after allegedly threatening patrons at a casino with a pellet gun thought to be a semi-automatic pistol.

The Yellowstone County coroner's office said Wednesday that 44-year-old Shawn Michael Hubbard of Billings was killed by two gunshot wounds to the chest.
