The Secretary of State verified three ballot initiatives. The first is the “Montana Plan,” an initiative that would work around Citizens United and ban corporations from spending money in state elections.
Another would push back on recent attempts to create partisan judiciary races. This would add a new section to the Montana constitution that mandates judicial elections remain nonpartisan.
The last aims to prevent government interference in citizen-led ballot initiatives. It would require the Secretary of State to read the draft within 90 days of its submission and provide reasonable time to address any legal concerns with the initiative.
The Secretary of State certified Federal and State candidates Thursday afternoon. Local governments did the same for their candidates separately throughout the day.
