Ferret recovery is tricky. Is it worth it?

State wildlife commissioners have approved the release of up to 20 black-footed ferrets in central Montana to prevent the loss of a struggling population of the highly-endangered prairie animal.
Montana  Fish, Wildlife and Parks non-game wildlife management bureau chief, Lauri Hanauska-Brown says this will allow federal biologists to release the animals onto the UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge by the weekend.

In this evening's feature interview, Hanauska-Brown explains to Edward O'Brien why it's proving so tricky to re-establish the Blackfooted Ferret in Montana.

Edward O’Brien first landed at Montana Public Radio three decades ago as a news intern while attending the UM School of Journalism. He covers a wide range of stories from around the state.
