Montana will close the state’s waitlist for federal rental assistance this month. Officials say the action is in response to the federal government reducing how much money it gives Montana for rent help. Montanans can still apply for a place on the waitlist until August 15th.

Montana families that rely on federal housing assistance are having a harder time finding places to live. The tight housing market has sent rents climbing, but federal assistance hasn't kept pace.
