OPI releases statewide student assessment info. The results aren't great

Less than half of Montana high school juniors and students in third through eighth grade met subject proficiency standards last school year, according to new statewide assessment results.

Students grades 3-8 were tested on English and Math and high-school juniors were tested on English, Math and Science. Results showed proficiency levels below those seen in recent years.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen attributed the low test scores of the 2020-2021 school year released today to the "unique circumstances and challenges" posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Office of Public Instruction, over 86% of Montana high school juniors and over 90% of grades 3-8 completed the test.
