Bullock Campaigns In Iowa, Gets Early Endorsement

Gov. Steve Bullock is in Iowa for the next few days after launching his 2020 presidential campaign in Helena Tuesday. Bullock is the first of the more than 20 Democratic candidates to be endorsed by a statewide elected official from Iowa.

Bullock started making public appearances in the early-caucusing state more than a year before he officially announced his plan to run for president. According to a database from the Des Moines Register, Montana’s governor made a showing at 14 events in Iowa dating back to April of last year.

He’s adding eight more stops this week.

On Thursday, Bullock’s campaign announced the endorsement of Iowa’s Democratic Attorney General Tom Miller, who endorsed President Barack Obama in his first run for the White House.

"I’m proud to endorse Steve Bullock for President of the United States," Miller said. "But believe me, I know I shouldn’t tell Iowans who to caucus for. But I ask you to go out and hear Steve and meet him and see what you think. The stakes are so high this time around, it’s up to us to get it right"

Bullock will be in Iowa until Saturday, visiting, among other locations, at least two beer establishments, three coffee shops and a tribal gym. His campaign has hired a state director and press secretary focused on the Iowa caucus.
