The Glacier Rim fire south of Glacier National Park slopped over fire lines due to high winds on July fourth, but firefighters made progress yesterday thanks to cooler weather and higher humidity. The fire is now estimated at 100 acres in size, up from 85 acres last week. It's being called 70% contained, that’s up from the 50% containment figure given on Friday.
Flathead County has assembled a structure protection team that is contacting property owners and and assessing risk to homes and buildings in the Spoon and Bailey Lake areas. There are currently 90 people assigned to fighting the Glacier Rim fire.
Rd 316, Canyon Creek Road, has been closed at the junction with the North Fork Road #486 and at the junction at Trumbull Creek Road #9848 to public access.
For your safety, and the safety of firefighters, authorities ask that travelers avoid stopping in the area of the fire. Vehicles driving on the North Fork Road are asked to not stop in the fire area. River floaters on the river are asked to not stop in the fire area.
