Snow, wind and cold temperatures are on the way. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a weekend winter storm watches for several areas in Western Montana.

Wind chill could drop temperatures to as low as -30 degrees. NWS cautions that frostbite on exposed skin could occur in as little as 30 minutes.

In the Flathead and Mission Valleys, the Weather Service anticipates a new 5 to 7 inches of snow with gusting winds up to 40 miles per hour starting Saturday evening through Monday afternoon. Blowing snow mixed with an icy glaze could reduce visibility and make road travel difficult.

Along the Rocky Mountain Front and around Great Falls, the Weather Service anticipates 5 to 10 inches at lower elevations and up to 16 inches of new snowfall in the mountains between Saturday night and Monday morning. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Blowing snow could impact visibility and travel could be difficult on snow- or ice-covered roadways.
