Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks specialists Tuesday killed an adult female grizzly and its yearling due to their history of livestock depredation in the Haskill Basin area near Whitefish.
GPS radio collar data collected in 2019 identified the adult bear at several sites where sheep, llamas and chickens were killed around Whitefish, but officials were not able to capture the bears until now.
FWP officials say the bears also attacked livestock this year in the area surrounding Whitefish.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and FWP also are investigating the death of a sub-adult grizzly bear near Coal Creek Road in the North Fork of the Flathead River area.
The bear was found May 18, with a GPS radio collar from a previous capture by FWP. Based on the collar’s data, officials believe the bear died May 16.

Grizzly bears are a federally protected species, and it is illegal to harm, harass, or kill them, except in cases of self-defense.
