Airport officials say work on an expansion that will nearly triple the size of Glacier International Airport will resume this summer.

The airport serving the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park will gain 125,000 square feet, adding additional gates and space for baggage handling areas, TSA staff and passengers.

The $100 million project was slated to begin last year, but was postponed after air travel plummeted in the early days of the pandemic. Airport officials say air travel to the Flathead Valley is expected to surge this summer with roughly 80,000 more available seats on flights, compared to the airport’s record-breaking season in 2019.

Construction to double the size of the Missoula International Airport is also ongoing.
