Can Do: Running a magazine with Megan Crawford

Megan Crawford

The introduction of digital news has forever changed the media landscape. Moreover, the extensive consolidation of newspapers by media conglomerates has made a considerable dent in the number of independently-owned, quality news sources that cover local people and issues.

In 2019, Montana State University graduate Megan Crawford took over Montana Woman Magazine and recreated it. She transformed the magazine into what it is today: a bi-monthly publication celebrating the achievements and resilience of women in the state.

How do you start a successful magazine in the current journalism climate? How do you fund independent media? Megan will explain the business side of running her magazine, and will tell us what she has learned from covering some of Montana’s most innovative entrepreneurs and creators.

Arnie Sherman's experiences as an entrepreneur, trade negotiator, strategic advisor, college professor and as the host of podcast, radio and television programs give him a singular perspective on life and the business world.
