The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are partnering with city and county governments on the Flathead Reservation in a first-of-its-kind study of housing needs in the region.

The Flathead Housing Coalition mailed out 900 notices last week inviting residents to fill out an online survey.

Jody Perez, the Salish and Kootenai Housing Authority’s executive director, says the survey is an effort to understand barriers to access housing and learn how governments can help.

“This survey will help us identify more of what the needs are.”

Lake County, Polson, Arlee, Ronan, Hot Spring and St. Ignatius also make up the coalition conducting the survey.

Perez says the survey, a homelessness study and interviews with residents will be presented to CSKT’s council sometime this summer.
