A proposal to claw back funds for public media has already passed the House of Representatives. Montana Public Radio and stations across the country receive critical federal funds to strengthen our work. The Senate could vote on the proposal in the coming days. Downtown Whitefish, MT.

The Whitefish City Council has approved rules that will allow recreational marijuana shops to operate downtown.

After initial concern about having too many stores concentrated in one area, council members agreed that shops would be allowed to open downtown. The council is also allowing shops in the city’s secondary business district along Highway 93, which serves as the main thoroughfare into Whitefish.

The council is restricting recreational marijuana retailers from operating within 500 feet of churches and schools.

Sales will be legal to adults 21 and older starting January 1.
