Tester To Chair U.S. Senate's Veterans' Affairs Committee

Senator Jon Tester (D) - Montana
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Montana’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester will take over as chair of the Senate’s Veterans' Affairs Committee Wednesday, according to a Tuesday announcement from his office.

Tester has been the ranking member behind current Republican Chair Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas. Moran will become the ranking minority member as Tester gavels in his first session of the committee this week.

The committee will be considering the pending nomination of Denis McDonough for Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Tester has been a member of the committee since he joined the Senate in 2007. His recent work on legislation involving veterans includes a bill expanding benefits to veterans exposed to agent orange.
