An event to counter President Donald Trump’s planned rally at Missoula’s airport Thursday, Oct. 18 focuses on getting out the vote.

Missoula Rises is organizing the “Love Trumps Hate” rally which runs from 2:30 to 6 p.m. that same day at Playfair Park, about seven miles from the airport.

It starts with activities ranging from children’s yoga to a food potluck. Volunteers will share perspectives on various candidates and initiatives appearing on November’s ballot. Volunteers also plan to escort people to the neighboring local election headquarters at the Missoula County Fairgrounds, where they can register to vote and drop off absentee ballots. Later in the afternoon, Thursday’s rally features speakers including indigenous leaders, veterans and activists. Missoula Rises says its event wraps up with a protest surrounding the fairgrounds.
