Senate Passes Native Language, Job Training Bills

Three bills aimed at helping Indian tribes passed the Senate yesterday, and one of them is going to President Donald Trump’s desk. All three were sponsored by Democratic Senator Jon Tester.
The first would consolidate several federal employment and job training programs.

The bipartisan bill passed without a formal vote because no senators objected to it. President Trump still has to sign the bill before it becomes law.

The two other bills would make it easier for tribes to use grants to preserve native languages and integrate their amber alert systems with regional systems. The U.S. House has yet to vote on those bills.

In a statement today Jon Tester said the bills "create jobs, safeguard our children, and ensure the rich heritage of Indian Country is passed down to the next generation."
