A Red Lodge High School science teacher wants you to get out and vote, for her.

Kate Belinda is hoping to get a wind turbine from Southern California to the high school, through a contest being put on by an insurance company.

In a YouTube video, she explains her idea.

“I think America should vote for harvesting the wind, powering the future through hands-on education, because it’s big. It’s huge. It’s stepping outside the box. It’s showing our kids that they can do things that are not traditional,” said Belinda.

The contest promises six teachers a $100,000 grant each to better their classrooms.

“Ours would obviously to bring our wind turbine to campus, and allow us to generate electricity here!” said Belinda.

She is hoping to use this turbine as a teaching tool.

“I’m looking at ways to engage our students in data and information that’s real time. So my hope is, with this hundred thousand, I will also get a web based system that will allow us to analyze how we’re utilizing energy on our campus,” she said.

She is currently in tenth place out of fifteen finalists. Voting continues through the month of October.
