Anti-Bullying Bill Advances To Montana Senate

Rep. Kimberly Dudik (D) Missoula.
Montana Legislature

Today the Montana House of Representatives passed a bill that could finally place Montana alongside every other state in the union with an anti-bullying law. House Bill 284 would make bullying illegal, allowing for action to be taken in court.

Opponents have said this bill is redundant because all Montana school districts already have anti-bullying policies.

However, no such opponents stood up today.

Supporters said the dozens of children who came to testify about their abuse at school show more needs to be done.

Republican Representative Greg Hertz of Polson was on the committee that passed the bill.

“As we’ve heard in the past when they’ve tried to work in the system, sometimes they’ve run up to the old 'boys will be boys,' 'girls will be girls' and there’s just nothing getting done.”

This bill passed 74-26, with only Republican members voting it down
