A proposed constitutional initiative that would have capped property taxes for residential owners has not garnered the signatures needed to appear on the November ballot, according to unofficial results from the Montana Secretary of State’s office.

Unofficial election results for the District 5 Public Service Commission seat show Republican candidates Annie Bukacek and Derek Skees both won 31% of 35,500 votes cast. Bukacek has a lead of 74 votes.

It’s now close enough to Election Day that voters should drop off their ballots at an election office instead of mailing them if they haven’t done so already. Voters also have until May 3 at 8 p.m. to request a replacement ballot if they lost or damaged theirs.
