Former Speaker of the House Austin Knudsen announced Monday that he is seeking the Republican nomination for Montana’s Attorney General race in 2020.

Knudsen served as a representative from Culbertson in the state Legislature from 2011 to 2017, serving as Speaker of the House during his last four years. He’s the second Republican to enter the Attorney General race.

Tim Fox has raised substantially more money than any other candidate running for a statewide office in Montana so far.

Campaign finance reports for the 2020 election filed Friday show Fox has raised nearly $204,000 since January 1. Fox, who is currently Montana’s attorney general, is running for governor.

HELENA — According to a study from the state health and human services department, more than 700 Montanans have died from an opioid overdose since 2000.

“And the number one recommendation from that study was that we need to invest in treatment courts,” said Rep. Zach Brown, D-Bozeman.

Republican Jon Bennion has worked at the Montana Department of Justice for the past six years.
The 40-year-old Billings native says his tenure there gives him a distinct advantage in Montana’s 2020 Attorney General race.

HELENA -- A bill in the Legislature would change DUI laws in Montana, making it legal for officers to take a blood sample from someone who refuses a breathalyzer on the first offense and increasing penalties for aggravated cases.
