Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is advising residents to bring pumpkins in at night in areas of Missoula with frequent bear activity.

The agency has received lots of reports of bear activity in the area and is investigating reports of a grizzly bear in the north hills of Missoula.

FWP says parents should accompany children while trick-or-treating in areas frequented by bears. The agency specifically points to the Rattlesnake, Bonner and Milltown areas.

FWP says the uptick in activity is related to bears feeding on fruit and getting into garbage. It asks that people harvest fruit and contain garbage in a bear-resistant manner.

According to FWP, bears usually head to their dens around Nov. 1, but some stay out later.
