The U.S. The Supreme Court Friday rejected a Texas lawsuit that sought to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. Multiple Montana political figures in recent days had taken sides in the case.
Before the decision Friday, Gov. Steve Bullock asked the court to reject the lawsuit.
Bullock warned in his brief that if Texas were successful in its suit, it would "destabilize the results of elections in Montana" and other states that used mail ballots as a means of minimizing the impact of the coronavirus on voting.
Multiple Montana Republicans, including Attorney General Tim Fox and Congressman Greg Gianforte, signed on in support of the case, saying it raised important constitutional questions about the separation of powers and integrity of mail in ballots.
Attorney General Tim Fox said the case was “belated” and the odds of the nation’s high court accepting the lawsuit were “slim at best.” However he said in a statement earlier this week that the case raises “important constitutional questions about the separation of powers and the integrity of mail-in ballots.”
U.S. Congressman and Governor-elect Greg Gianforte joined more than 100 Republican members of congress this week in backing the legal challenge of election results.
There has been no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
The Electoral College meets Monday.
