Fire mangers report little activity on the Bacon Rind Fire burning near Big Sky on the Gallatin National Forest. New flights show the fire at 393 acres, up from around 340 acres yesterday, according to the fire's public information officer. Crews are monitoring the fire with an eye on forecasts calling for continued hot, dry weather. Mangers are working on plans for fighting the fire if it moves closer to Highway 191.
The Reynolds Lake Fire southwest of Darby is now 60 percent contained, up from 50 percent yesterday. The fire did not grow yesterday and remains at 1,068 acres.
Two crews working on the fire were released today and were reassigned to the 4,000-acre Rattlesnake Creek Fire in Idaho. Two engines were also released.
Firefighters are continuing mop-up activities and are working to contain any additional spot fires. Fire engines are doing the same on Forest Road #044. Aircraft will be used as needed to moderate the fire and any spread.
