Montana ACLU's Popularity Is Rising Post Election

Donald Trump’s election has proven to be a windfall of sorts for the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana.

Kileen Marshall is the organization’s Director of Philanthropy and Strategic Initiatives:

"So in the first week post-election we saw over 100 Montanans made their first-ever gift to the ACLU, which is phenomenal. That is not by any means a normal week for us," said Marshall.

Marshall can’t even access second week post-election donation totals because tallying efforts can’t keep pace with the rate of giving.

"There’s no doubt that this is directly related to the election of Donald Trump," said Caitlin Borgmann, ACLU of Montana’s executive director

Borgmann says President-elect Trump’s campaign positions, while frequently vague, could potentially:

"Affect immigrants, refugees, use of torture techniques, positions on 1st Amendment and freedom of the press as well as a woman’s right to choose, all of which are core issues that the ACLU works on," Borgmann said.

ACLU of Montana also reports an 11-percent spike in Facebook friend requests over the past two weeks.
