In addition to being the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States, Joy Harjo is also an accomplished musician and recording artist mixing singing, spoken word, saxophone and Native American flutes into her diverse combination of musical styles.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma Joy is a member of the Mvskoke Nation and belongs to Oce Vpofv (Hickory Ground). She joined host John Floridis in conversation by phone to talk about her musical career and highlight her most recent recording “I Pray For My Enemies.” Her first new album in over a decade, the project includes collaborations with Peter Buck of REM, Kurt Novaselic of Nirvana, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and esteemed Oud virtuoso Rahim AlHaj.
