New Program Lineup Coming In September!

Aug 5, 2019

Starting September 2, you’ll hear an expanded lineup of engaging programs on Montana Public Radio. MTPR staff will be on the road to meet you on the MTPR Summer Brew Tour, August 12-22. Come chat and have a beer with us and listen to a preview reel introducing four new programs coming to the MTPR schedule.

Paying close attention to the changing needs, desires and habits of our audience, we thoroughly considered programs from great public radio producers across the country. The four new programs we chose are: The Splendid Table, Travel with Rick Steves, Planet Money & How I Built This and Hidden Brain; they are key to a new, dynamic weekend schedule.

Montana Public Radio’s new weekend schedule is designed to be “don’t miss radio.” We start with news where you tell us you need it most – Weekend Edition Saturday and Sunday will now be two full hours from 6-8 a.m. and an encore hour at 10 a.m.

After the news, Saturdays will be riveting, with an audience favorite, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me! at 11 a.m. followed by This American Life and On the Media. At 4 p.m., Planet Money and How I Built This delivers creative and entertaining information about the economy and dives into stories behind some of the world’s innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists. The day’s changes will culminate in a new musical pairing starting at 6 p.m.: Live From Here followed by American Routes.

On Sundays after the news at 11 a.m., The Splendid Table celebrates the intersection of food, life and culinary culture. Then Travel with Rick Steves shares adventures and inspiration for you to forge your own path around the world. Radiolab completes the new midday program block.

As for your weeknight evenings at 7 p.m., Hidden Brain helps curious people understand the world using science and storytelling on Fridays. An hour-long Musician’s Spotlight premieres on Tuesdays, and a new world music show, World Bridges joins the Monday line-up. We are also extending local music past midnight with encores of Freeforms Monday-Friday and Pazz and Jop on Saturday.

Of course, just like you do at home, to make room for new things, something else must go. The Met Opera, Alternative Radio, and On Being are leaving our program schedule, but will still be easy for you to find online and on demand. We know these shows are favorites for many, so below we've listed ways you can continue to listen to these programs at your convenience.

We look forward to seeing you on the MTPR Brew Tour. Thanks for trusting us to bring you the very best in public radio!
