Republican Greg Gianforte has tapped a veteran lawmaker and state employee to lead his transition into Montana’s governor's office.
Mike Milburn was elected as a Republican to the state House of Representatives in 2004, and was made Speaker of the House his last term in 2011. He currently serves as chief of staff for Attorney General Tim Fox.
In a campaign press release, Milburn said he’s looking forward to "laying a firm foundation for the Gianforte administration to lead Montana’s comeback." Gianforte's campaign did not make Milburn available for an interview Thursday.
Milburn, originally from Lewistown, also served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and Montana National Guard. He’s on the board of Benefis Health System in Great Falls.
Gianforte said in the press release that Milburn "has the knowledge and experience to assemble a well-qualified, hardworking team to help lead Montana’s comeback."
With the election of Gianforte to office, Republicans will control the governor’s seat for the first time in 16 years.
