Cyrille Aimée Sings Jazz 'With A Sniper's Precision'

Courtesy of Cyrille Aimée

"Michael Jackson brushes shoulders with Sarah Vaughan in the person of Cyrille Aimée, a saucy, curly-haired jazz singer with one foot in tradition and the other in electronics." - Stephen Holden, New York Times

Cyrille Aimée grew up in Samois-sur-Seine, the French town that Django Reinhardt called home in his final years. Thanks to the annual Django Reinhardt Festival, as a twelve-year-old, Aimée got hooked by the joyous rhythms of Manouche jazz.  She spent her teen years playing music live, first in Paris's clubs and cafes, then weekly at New York's Birdland Jazz Club during her years as a music student at SUNY Purchase. Aimée went on to win the Montreux Jazz Festival and Sarah Vaughan Jazz Competitions and immersed herself in New York's jazz and theater scenes. After ten years there, she moved south to The Big Easy. Aimée spoke to host John Floridis from her home in New Orleans.

(Broadcast: Musician's Spotlight,  2/2/21 and 5/18/21. Listen on the radio Tuesdays, 7 p.m., or via podcast.)

John Floridis, the host and producer of Musician's Spotlight, has been with Montana Public Radio since 1997. He has interviewed over 200 musicians during that time. He is also an independent recording and performing artist in his own right and a former registered music therapist.
