President Biden stands next to his Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, Feb. 25, 2022.

Montana’s two U.S. senators voted largely along party lines Thursday in the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Brown Jackson was confirmed in a 53 to 47 vote, with all Senate Democrats and independents voting for her confirmation, and all but three Republicans voting against.

Democratic Senator Jon Tester said in a statement following the vote that Jackson has shown a “deep understanding” of the Second Amendment, antitrust enforcement in the agriculture industry and other issues important to Montanans.

Republican Senator Steve Daines said earlier this week he did not support Jackson’s appointment to the Supreme Court, saying her views are “not in line with what Montanans want in a Supreme Court justice.”

Jackson will be the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She’s set to be sworn in this summer.
