The Observation Point Fire that was first reported Friday about 10 miles south of Hamilton is currently covering 202 acres, and is on very steep terrain, making suppression efforts difficult. About 80 people are on hand fighting the fire.
Fire Information Officer Dixie Dies believes the fire was caused by lightning, and wants to remind everyone:
"People need to pay attention to their campfires, fireworks are not allowed on the national forest, and the areas that they are, people need to remember it’s getting hotter, and dryer, and windier."
Fire danger is currently "moderate" in the Bitterroot, but is expected to get to "high" mid-week.
There are no fire restrictions in the Bitterroot.
Closures include Camas Lake and Observation Point. There is no containment estimate of the Observation Point fire at this point.
