Today Montana State Parks announced plans to construct group bicycle campsites at four state parks in western Montana.
Improvements will be made to sites at Whitefish Lake State Park and Flathead Lake-Wayfarers State Park while new camps will be constructed at Placid Lake and Salmon Lake State Parks near Seeley.
Montana State Parks Communication manager Pat Doyle says the campsites will help the state adapt to a new wave of tourism.
“We’ve taken a look at the change of demographic as well as the growing number of people coming to Montana via long-distance bike route and this is a way to sort of look at that change and realize our state parks can accommodate this in a cost-effective manner.”
The sites will accommodate up to 10 tent spaces and be equipped with a bicycle rack, fire ring, bear resistant food lockers, potable water, bicycle maintenance stand, electrical outlets and covered shelter with picnic tables.
Construction in the parks will begin this spring.
