A proposed constitutional amendment to reform campaign finance laws failed in the U-S Senate today. The amendment was co-sponsored by Montana Democrat Jon Tester.
Senator Tester says the amendment is needed to restore state control of campaign spending regulations.
"After the U-S Supreme court issued its Citzens United ruling and its McCutcheon decision our campaign finance laws were literally thrown out the window. And that is why we need to amend the constitution because right now corporations and third party groups can dump unlimited amounts of secret money into elections and drown out the voices of regular folks like us."
Tester says he’ll continue to fight the practices made legal by Citizens United.
