Montana Public Radio is hiring a Temporary Community Engagement Specialist to join our team. This position will work with us to understand and reach new audiences and coordinate community engagement efforts across multiple departments throughout Montana Public Radio.

This position ensures that MTPR is serving all Montanans with its program offerings by understanding who Montanans are, and identifying gaps.

The pay is $14.59 - $18.266/hr along with an insurance package and retirement plant.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Convene community gatherings for presentations on multiple platforms (e.g. live events online and in person events)
  • Guides newsroom and programming departments through a diversity audit to reveal who we are including now, and who we are leaving out
  • Cultivate community connections, including new media partnerships (especially with BIPOC community groups and media)
  • Identify community narratives, missing or misinformation, and opportunities for enterprise projects
  • Host productive conversations with diverse groups of people
  • Communicate across the MTPR organization, and with the public we serve
  • Serve as a member of the BMC/MTPR senior staff
  • Act as face and voice of community engagement for MTPR including possible on-air work.
  • Act as coordinator and facilitator between MTPR staff and the America Amplified team.
  • Coordinate and communicate with MTPR staff.
  • Serve as member MTPR senior staff.
  • Work as part of BMC/MTPR team by helping build and maintain a work atmosphere of trust and respect including communicating professionally, positively and effectively.

Required Skills

  • Experience connecting to and engaging with a wide variety of communities across Montana.
  • Ability to identify and converse with community leaders.
  • Experience organizing community town halls, listening sessions, conversations and/or events.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and present data, in writing and on-air, in an understandable manner.
  • Knowledge of journalism standards of balance, fairness, and fact checking
  • Knowledge of Montana.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.

Minimum Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
