The Songs Of Cal Massey This Week On 'What I Like About Jazz'

Cover for "Blues to Coltrane" by Cal Massey.

This week on What I Like About Jazz, we pay tribute to the songs of Cal Massey, a brilliant composer, arranger and little-known trumpet player. We'll hear from Lee Morgan, John Coltrane, Herbie Mann, Freddie Hubbard, Houston Person, McCoy Tyner, Archie Shepp, and more.

Experience a few tunes from Massey's rare album for Candid records in 1961. Finally, modern piano great Benny Green plays a favorite tune.

Tune in to MTPR online or on your radio Wednesday night, November 4 from 8:00-10:00 p.m.
