Monday Music Special: The Great Engineer, Phil Ramone

Monday, September 16th, 2013, 7:30pm: host Tom Engelmann returns with another episode of "Unsung Heroes: Influential but Overlooked Masters of Modern Music," profiling the work of the late record producer and engineer, Phil Ramone.

Ramone is virtually unknown to most casual music fans, but he either produced or engineered recordings in all of the most popular musical genres, winning three Grammy Awards for best album in the process. His collaborators include jazz artists Bill Evans, T.S. Monk and Stan Getz; pop artists Billy Joel, Paul Simon and Elton John; folk artists and rockers Bob Dylan, The Band and Chicago; and even classical artists like Luciano Pavarotti and Renee Fleming. He was also responsible for memorable recordings by Frank Sinatra, and was likely the engineer behind the famous rendition of “Happy Birthday” sung by Marilyn Monroe for John F. Kennedy in 1962.
