The Montana Supreme Court has rejected a Bozeman legislator's appeal to throw out a case alleging that he took illegal corporate campaign contributions.

The commissioner of political practices has put 14 political action committees on notice that their status will be terminated if they don't file their required spending reports.

Trace amounts of E.Coli and Nitrates were found in samples from a sewage water spill into the Gallatin River earlier this month.

Federal officials are considering removing the microorganism that causes brucellosis from the list of bioterrorism agents. Wildlife advocates, agricultural groups and state government officials support the idea because it would lift burdens on vaccine research.Removing Brucella abortus from the list would make it easier for researchers to get a strain of the bacteria and work on developing a better brucellosis vaccine. Currently, getting the bacteria requires large amounts of paperwork and restrictions that complicate shipping and research conditions.

A state judge has struck down a permit for a southeastern Montana coal mine, saying officials failed to fully consider the effects of pollutants from the mine on several nearby creeks. The Rosebud strip mine near Colstrip produces about 9 million tons of coal a year for the Colstrip power plant.
