A proposal to remove a rock dam from Montana's Yellowstone River so a population of endangered pallid sturgeon can reach its spawning grounds could cost far more than government plans to construct a new dam and fish bypass at the site for $59 million.

Wyoming-based Cloud Peak Energy is reporting a $205 million dollar loss for 2015 after pinning its hopes for growth on an export market in Asia that has fizzled. Cloud Peak operates the Spring Creek coal strip mine in Montana near the Wyoming border.

Jury deliberations are underway in the re-trial of a Butte man charged with killing his father in December 2008.
