Monte Dolack is one of the most widely recognized and beloved artists in Montana. The artist marks his 70th birthday in the year 2020. As the inaugural exhibition of the Montana Museum of Arts & Culture sesquicentennial season, "Monte Dolack: The Artist's Nature" brings together many original oil paintings, sketches, lithographs, and posters, reflecting Dolack’s love of the natural world and blending his interests in storytelling and mythology with his profound sense of humor.

"This collection ... was a joy for me to see pieces I hadn't seen in years," Dolak said.
"It's a continuum of work from probably about 40 years, from very recent pieces to quite early ones. At times, the print or the poster is on view next to the original work, just so people can get an idea of how these things come about," he said.
The exhibit runs through August 29 at the Montana Museum of Arts & Culture on the UM campus. The gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, noon - 6 p.m.
