“When you’re starting a business, and when you’re fleshing out the ideas, you cannot be afraid to admit to yourself that what you’re doing is not good,” says Tom Snyder, creator and owner of Five On Black, a fast casual, health-oriented Brazilian-style restaurant that has locations in Montana and Colorado.

Tom started the restaurant a little over five years ago, after winning the Montana-based John Ruffatto Business Startup Challenge. Tom used the winnings to travel to Brazil and refine the restaurant's menu. After a lot of experimenting and a few recipe disasters, Tom opened the first restaurant in 2013 in Missoula, Montana with the help of his wife.
