Confidence remains high for bitterly cold, windy, and in some cases snowy weather to move into the northern Rockies early next week.
Saturday will be marked with warmer than normal temperatures, cloudy skies and some scattered showers.
But major changes are in store starting Sunday. National Weather Service forecasters say that’s when a powerful cold front will rapidly drop temperatures throughout the day.
Threats for northwest Montana include the potential refreeze of moisture on roadways and blowing and drifting snow.
East of the divide, Nye, Red Lodge, and Fort Smith could get upwards of 8 inches of snow. Red Lodge could pick up a foot.
Forecasters say some of the coldest temperatures of this winter may be recorded early next week with daytime highs maxing out only in the single digits.
