Rock climbers will get an update Wednesday on the Bitterroot National Forest’s effort to create a climbing management plan.
The Bitterroot National Forest will review its draft plan and take public comment during a Wednesday meeting held virtually starting at 6 p.m. A Zoom link for the meeting can be found on the Bitterroot National Forest’s website.
The Ravalli Republic first reported on the release of the draft climbing plan, which the public will have their first chance to weigh in on this week. The process to formalize the document, however, still has a long way to go.
According to forest service officials, the final decision on a plan will come from a formal National Environmental Policy Act process. Officials say that plan will describe responsible climbing activities that maintain recreation access and provide protections for cultural and natural resources.
