This year Montanans will elect state legislators, public service commissioners, state Supreme Court justices, and for the first time in 30 years, two U.S. House representatives.
Nine candidates are running in the western congressional district, including Republicans Ryan Zinke and Al Olszewski. For the Democrats, Cora Neumann, Tom Winter and Monica Tranel have entered the race. In the east, 10 candidates are challenging incumbent Republican Congressman Matt Rosendale. In all, that's 20 candidates in the U.S. House races at this point.
About two dozen legislative races will feature an unchallenged Republican candidate and no Democratic opponent.
The deadline for candidates to file with the Montana Secretary of State was Monday at 5 p.m. Some cut it close, with four candidates filing on Saturday, and about two dozen on Sunday and Monday.
Montana’s primary election is on June 7.
