Avalanche forecasters say avalanche danger is considerable in parts of western Montana.
The highest avalanche danger exists at the middle and upper elevations for the Whitefish and Flathead ranges, and Glacier National Park. Avalanche danger in the Swan Range is moderate.
On Tuesday morning the Flathead Avalanche Center said up to 14 inches of snow had accumulated within the past 24 hours. The center warns slabs will be thicker and more dangerous on the downwind side of ridges and gullies.
For west central Montana, considerable avalanche danger exists from the lower elevations to the higher elevations.
The West Central Montana Avalanche Center said snowfall, winds and rising temperatures can impact the area and build storm slabs at all elevations. It warned human- and naturally-caused avalanches are possible.
The avalanche advisories are in effect through Wednesday morning.
