Ahead of Montana’s upcoming first legal recreational marijuana sales, lawmakers this week told state regulators to reconsider several potential rules.
The Montana Department of Revenue’s Cannabis Control Division Chief Kristan Barbour tells MTPR the Revenue Interim Committee directed her division to take another look at the proposal to ban anyone with a criminal conviction within the past three years from working in the cannabis industry.
“They have also encouraged us to go back to the drawing board,” she says.
The recent closer reading of another rule embedded within the legislation establishing adult use cannabis sales surprised regulators and industry insiders alike. It would prohibit license holders from growing or selling hemp products and also ban them from selling CBD products.
Barbour says that confused everybody and also merits a full review.
“So that one, I think, is something that likely will change in the coming weeks.”
