Several prescribed burns are planned in western Montana this week.

If weather conditions are favorable, the Lolo National Forest will conduct pile burning on up to 50 acres in the Plains-Thompson Falls Ranger District. The burning is located about 6 miles west of Thompson Falls and smoke may be visible from town, Highway 200 and MT Highway 7.

A separate burn is expected to start Thursday near York, northeast of Helena. The burn will take place in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest on 100 to 300 acres. Residents in York will see and smell smoke and people in Helena will see smoke northeast of town in the Big Belt Mountains.
